Snobby Robot is an online trade-style magazine dedicated to the web series community – covering series, showcasing talents, and learning how to succeed in new media.

To Our Community,

It’s a bit much to ask you guys to jump right in and contribute, so I figured I would provide a little perspective on who I am, and what Snobby Robot is all about.

I grew up watching great Sci-Fi on tv, like The X-Files, Highlander, or Stargate SG-1. Maybe not all great shows, but – that genre seems to instill a sense of wonder in me that likely fueled my desire to be creative.

As I got older I became a lot more… particular in my tastes. I flocked towards darker dramas on film like Pulp Fiction, Apocalypse Now,  or American Beauty. My love of Sci-Fi remained, and somewhere between Solaris, 2001, and The Fountain I developed a love of beautiful imagery that inspires my recent passion for photography.

As with all types of entertainment they are there with us on the periphery during all of life’s major events. Movies got me through my parents divorce, and I will forever associate the somber sound of Fleet Foxes with a bad break up. It was through those times that I learned the most about myself. Most significantly, I discovered that my curiosity for writing became inspired and my impulse for creation was not something to ignore. I had gained perspective. I had stories worth telling.

But how do I tell them?

I sat up in bed at three o’clock in the morning and started this blog. I didn’t know what it would be or where it would lead, but I knew I had something to say.

I started reading a lot more. Film, technology, entertainment, I ate it all up – looking at it now it makes sense.

The world of web production was the most interesting thing out there. For the first time in history people have the ability to bring artistic visions to life and share them with the world – all they need is the desire to do so. There are no more gatekeepers, the internet provides the perfect repository for every culture to put all of their artistic output on display.

I wanted to be a part of this revolution. I wanted to create a web series – but that takes planning, and understanding.

I founded The Snobby Robot in 2012 as a way for me to learn how to tell stories on the web. I watched tons of web series, I chatted with creators, I followed businesses trying to break new ground in this field – all in the hopes of learning as much as I could.

I discovered that I was not the only one. We all have that urge to create and we all have a unique perspective worth sharing. It has always been this way, the only difference is that today we all have the means of telling our story.

This movement is so much bigger than myself, there are so many members of the community to meet and so much knowledge to share. This isn’t Hollywood, these shows are created from the heart, not for the purpose of making a profit, but because for their creators there is no other choice but to create.

These shows and their creators deserve the same level of attention. With the launch of Snobby Robot I assembled a team to deliver a trade-style online publication devoted to all you creative revolutionaries out there.

This internet distribution thing is new to all of us, and many aspects of it are still being sorted out. You might know your way around a camera or a grip truck, but maybe web sites, crowd funding and social media are not your thing. That’s what we are here for – to curate & celebrate the vast body of knowledge & talent that exists in this community. We think we can make all this independent web producing stuff a little easier so you can focus on telling us your story.  Let us know how we can help.
