“For years, I have been a hired actor for various gigs in New York, and around the country. It has been my job to help tell other people’s stories, with my own take of course, but they were other people’s visions,” McFadden says. “This was my opportunity to create my own work and share a story that I connect to on a personal level.”
“I was hired by an older English actress who lived in a one room studio in the heart of Hollywood by herself. Her husband was dead, all of her friends were dead, and she had no one. She was a lovely, complicated woman. And she was alone and frightened. I drove her to the market and to do errands and would make sure she had everything she needed and she would pay me what she called ‘mad money.’ And I needed that mad money at the time.”
This Broadway retrospective seeks to bring fans of classic shows online, in the hopes they might find some new classics available for viewing on Stage17.
“I think there is a lot to be said for the fact that our show is completely unscripted, was treated as an experiment and we had no idea if it was going to succeed, be funny or if we would even like working together.”
