There’s much more to a romantic relationship than just sex. It’s also about how well you love – and know – who you’re in love with. That’s the theme of a new comedy web series GOOD LOVIN’, written and created by Rhonda Kennedy, and directed by John Hermann.
The pilot episode aired on Monday, Feb. 25th, and while eight to ten more episodes are planned, whether or not they’ll be filmed depends on funding and also if the show can grow its fan base.
GOOD LOVIN’ follows a young couple, Lonnie Goodman (played by David Hunter, Jr.), and Trina Bailey (Blair Sharne’), who have been in a “special arrangement” for six months. Lonnie works nights, and Trina works during the day, and because of their busy schedules, their relationship is only about one thing: sex. Trina wants to make their relationship about much more than what goes on in the bedroom – she wants to get to know Lonnie, and to expand their relationship beyond sex, a task that he only makes harder when Trina asks questions about how well he really knows her, and his answers make it clear that he’s got a lot of catching up to do.
Kennedy cites personal experiences among her family and friends as the main inspiration for GOOD LOVIN’. “People always seem to believe that they are the only ones going through certain situations but I know this is a universal story. If you can’t relate yourself, you will likely know someone who can.” Kennedy describes the show as “more of a romantic drama with some comedic elements. The show is different because the average person can relate to it–no matter their background, job, status etc., people can relate to settling in a relationship/dating situation.”
She also says that many web series, while entertaining, simply don’t have characters and situations that viewers can relate to, another factor that sets GOOD LOVIN’ apart from most shows. “We all have flaws and I love highlighting those flaws in characters. It’s a constant reminder that we’re all human and no one’s perfect.” While only the pilot has been filmed, Kennedy hopes to film at least eight, and possibly ten, more episodes of the show.
Kennedy has a lot of goals for GOOD LOVIN’. “I hope to create a story that has strong characters. I want Good Lovin’ to be a show that people look forward to seeing and love talking about…hopefully the different things that go on throughout the season will create dialogue.” Overall, she hopes GOOD LOVIN’ can bring viewers together, no matter what they’ve experienced in love’s rocky course. “I want people to understand that they aren’t alone in their relationship/dating woes. People in all different age groups, races etc., are going through it and can relate. I want the show to be a reminder to people that they don’t have to settle. There’s nothing wrong with asking the right questions to know where you stand, so that you can be sure you’re dealing with someone who wants the same things that you do.”
