Don’t tune into this year’s Emmy Awards program expecting to see the cast and creators of ‘The Lizzie Bennet Diaries’ taking the stage and accepting an award, it turns out the award giving body is a little bigger than that. Every year the group that presides over the Emmy’s gives out a handful of other awards including the Creative Arts Emmy’s, which Lizzie Bennet was recognized under.

The Creative Arts Emmys are a class of Emmy Awards presented in recognition of technical and other similar achievements in American television programming. They are commonly awarded to behind-the-scenes personnel such as art directors, costume designers, cinematographers, casting directors, and sound editors. The Creative Arts category also includes awards for outstanding animated programs and guest acting.

The LBD was one of five digital media programs selected for recognition by The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Interactive Media Peer Group – winning the Emmy For Original Interactive Program. The awards are focused on transmedia elements of storytelling and gameification. Lizzie Bennet has been praised for its ability to tell its story through video blogs, and twitter profiles.

With the Emmy’s opening up and expanding their coverage & recognition of web based content, it’s only a matter of time before we see even more series recognized for outstanding achievements.
