REVIEW: I OWN YOU – A man and a droid he wasn’t looking for make hilarious comedic duo.

Hello, fellow sci-fi nerds out there! Got a dark sense of humor? Good. You’re going to need it for this series. What happens when you give a horrible person that’s a laid-back stoner a robot servant? Yeah. Chaos. A lot of terrible things. This means a lot of laughs from the viewers and a lot of bad days for the robot.

I OWN YOU is a sci-fi comedy series from Working Fish that was created/written by Michael Jonathan Smith, directed by Michael Jonathan Smith, Alex Aschinger and Chris Yule. The series follows Dale (Chris Yule), a horrible man that drunkenly orders a robot servant named E.L.M.A.R (Alex Aschinger) off late-night television. Then proceeds to make that sweet, naïve robot do everything he can think of when the robot just wants to please his master. You can just use your imagination to imagine the hell that this robot has to deal with while under the ownership of Dale. The robot is forced to eat Dale’s poop, buy drugs for Dale and much more. It’s insane the amount of crap that the robot has to deal with in each episode. You begin to wonder if you have a conscience or not while laughing at these ridiculous tasks.

Dale (Chris Yule).

The reason why you don’t feel as terrible about it at times might be because the robot accepts tasks with a smile on his face and an overall positive vibe. The only exception would be eating the poop as he was prevented from calling help. This sounds awful as I’m typing it. I promise I’m a good human being. I promise! You’ll be grappling with the same thing once you watch this series. Once you get past the initial “WTF” stage. This series will make you laugh over and over again. You can’t stop watching it.

The cast seemed solid. It is really easy to like E.L.M.A.R from the beginning. He’s just a naïve robot that wants to do a good job. You want to be his friend. You’d want to order him drunkenly off late-night television. That’s balanced with Dale. Maybe some people will like Dale. I don’t. He’s a jerk. The mix of the two makes for an interesting comedic duo. They will hold your attention through each episode with the latest stunt they are doing. It never felt like they were trying too hard or that it was too much. That can be a danger when really pushing the boundaries on things. It’ll turn the viewers off. That wasn’t the case for this series though.

E.L.M.A.R (Alex Aschinger).

I OWN YOU comes across as a simple series, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it isn’t as interesting as other series. Remember that saying that less is more? Well, in this instance, it’s true. I OWN YOU is incredibly entertaining. This series will blow your mind with awesomeness. Terrible, dark, humiliating, painful, gross and crazy awesomeness. Remind yourself to take a deep breath after laughing uncontrollably at the nightmare that’s about to unfold for you. This series is recommended for those that laugh at a lot of the dark in the world. Hey, laughter gets you through it, right?

I OWN YOU is definitely what the doctor ordered for a bad day. I recommend this series for everyone, not just sci-fi nerds. It’s not meant for younger people because of certain content. Sit back and relax. Laugh. A lot. Cry from laughing. I don’t know if you’d want to eat food through some of this, but hey, give it a try. Then take in the awesomeness that is about to make you feel like an awful human being.
